House of Commons and Ibiza gigs for the winner of new Dj comp
The winner of a new Dj competition, that is looking for raw talent in the UK, will perform sets at two of the world’s most iconic settings.
Both Westminster and We Love Space in Ibiza will be the venues for a talented young Dj looking to make a break through into the house music markets.
Last Night a DJ Saved my Life (LNADJ), a charitable foundation based in London, launched the competition called ‘House the House’ with an eye to “empower young people” both in their music and within their communities.
The competition is open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 25 years old and applications will be made via Mixcloud. Regional heats featuring eight hopefuls will be held in 11 UK cities between October and December 2012 with the eventual winner playing at the House of Commons Terrace Bar that can be seen from Westminster Bridge. The judges will be made up of established Djs, club promoters and music professionals.
CEO of UK Music, one of the sponsors of the event, said: “UK Music is very proud to be involved in a project like House the House. LNADJ are playing a key part in finding the talent of tomorrow through this nationwide campaign which is something I am very passionate about.”
It will be the first time the Commons will be open to such an event, with all political parties hoping that this will empower young people to get engaged in both their own music but also the wider community.
MP for Hove and Portslade, Mike Weatherley, said: The House The House initiative is incredibly exciting – this will have the country enthralled, youths everywhere inspired, and communities engaged.
He added: “Coming together, making a difference, House The House is a great example of what the whole music industry can achieve in an innovative way."
The launch party for Last Night A DJ Save My Life presents House The House will take place at Vinyl Factory on Poland Street in London’s Soho on Tuesday 19th June 2012 between 7pm and 12pm; guest DJs include Danny Rampling, Andy Mac and Andy Singh, all playing vinyl.
